An announcement made in May 2011 by the Ministry of Children and Youth Services (MCYS) will change the face of the communities we serve for generations to come. Recognizing the desperate need for new facilities, the Government of Ontario approved ErinoakKids long-anticipated Redevelopment Project.

Now assigned to Infrastructure Ontario (IO), ours is the largest Redevelopment Project in the Ministry’s history, and the first multi-site construction of a Children’s Treatment Centre in the province. The project will enable ErinoakKids to consolidate its current patchwork of leased and retrofitted office and commercial space into three new facilities that are fully accessible and appropriately designed to provide care to children and youth with a broad range of disabilities and special needs.

In May 2015, construction began on our three new facilities which will be located in Brampton, Oakville and Mississauga. They are scheduled for completion in January of 2018.

Peel-Halton Partnership (PHP) has been selected to design, build and finance these new facilities. The PHP includes Stantec (lead architects), Bondfield Construction (developer and contractor), and Rocklynn Capital Inc. (financial advisors). This team is uniquely qualified to bring the vision of our new buildings to life.

Our new buildings will allow us to:
  • Offer our complete range of services and supports at each site (with the exception of respite care and the therapy pool, which will be located at the Brampton site), so that families do not have to travel multiple locations for care
  • Realize efficiencies so we can serve more children and youth, better and faster
  • Provide continual (24/7) respite care at our Brampton location
  • Meet service demand for the next 25 years

The construction of three new buildings will also create a vital resource for the communities we serve. Facilities such as fully accessible playgrounds, serenity gardens, a warm-water therapy pool, and adapted gyms will be made available for community use.

The Province of Ontario is providing 100 per cent of the funds required to purchase land and construct the three new buildings. For its part, ErinoakKids must raise $20-million to equip the new buildings. We plan to move everything possible from our current locations. However, as we are currently grossly undersized and will be more than doubling and respite treatment space, it will be necessary to acquire new equipment and furnishings to serve our clients and their families.

Highlights of the new facilities
