Why is ErinoakKids building new facilities?
Since ErinoakKids first began serving children with disabilities nearly 40 years ago from our South Millway location, we have grown to become the province’s largest children’s treatment centre, serving more than 15,000 children and youth each year, from 11 sites. As we’ve grown in size, we have been creative with the spaces we use, retrofitting office space to meet the needs of our clients and families. Today, as demand for our services increases, these spaces  no longer meet our needs. For that reason we have begun construction on three new fully accessible facilities – one in Mississauga, another in Oakville and a third in Brampton, designed specifically for children and youth with disabilities and special needs.

When will the new facilities be open?
Construction of our new facilities is set to be complete late 2017, and we’re planning to open our new facilities later in 2017 or early 2018.

Where will the new facilities be located?
Our  Brampton site will be located at 10145 McVean Dr., at the intersection of McVean and Castlemore Roads.
Our Mississauga site will be located at 1230 Central Parkway West, just south of Burnamthorpe Rd.
Our Halton site will be located at 2000 Glenorchy Rd. at the northwest corner of the planned extensions to Burnhamthorpe Road and Third Line in north Oakville.

What features will these facilities have?
Our new facilities, which will more than double our treatment and therapy space, will feature:
  • Controlled multisensory Snoezelen rooms for children with autism or developmental disabilities
  • Fully-accessible playgrounds for recreation therapy, physiotherapy and occupational therapy
  • Adapted fitness facilities
  • Therapeutic treatment and playrooms
  • A warm water therapy pool (Brampton site)
  • A 26-bed Regional Respite Centre (Brampton site) – the largest of its kind in Ontario.
What will happen to existing sites?
Once our new buildings are constructed, all existing locations in Brampton, Mississauga and Oakville will close and services move to our sites. Remaining leases on all other sites will be terminated and our solely owned site on South Millway Drive has been sold.

Will clients and families get to see the sites before the open?
Yes! We will be organizing opportunities for clients and families to tour our new sites before they open. Watch for more detailed information in the coming months at erinoakkids.ca/redevelopment or sign up on to receive our client newsletter.

Will there be a disruption in services?
We do not anticipate any significant disruption in services during our move. At this time, our plan is to close our sites for a few days as we physically move to our new buildings. Watch for more information on our website or speak with your clinician(s) if you have any questions.

Where will my child receive services when the new sites open?
ErinoakKids has developed a comprehensive plan to help ease the transition for all clients and families to our three new sites. In doing so, we remain committed to ensuring, where possible, clients and families continue to receive services in their communities, close to home. Families are assigned to sites based on postal codes, which is outlined here.

Will I be able to pick the site where my child will receive services?
While a few exceptions may occur, families will not be able to choose their child’s site. The locations of our new sites were selected based on the current and projected needs of the communities we serve. Our goal is to keep services within the home communities of our clients and families’ when determining at what site our clients will receive service. Should you have concerns about the site your child is assigned to, please email us at info@erinoakkids.ca.

When will I know where my family will receive services?
A letter notifying families to where they will receive services was mailed in March 2017. You can also view the new site assignments based on postal code here.

Will ErinoakKids offer new or more services at its new locations?
ErinoakKids has a long history of expanding service to meet the needs of clients and families. This practice will continue in the future, based on the availability of new funding to support new and/or expanded services.

Our new buildings will allow us to bring therapy, medical and support services under one roof so that most client families will receive all their services from one location. The exception to this will be overnight respite, which will be offered at our new Brampton location, and initial assessments for our Assistive Devices Resources Services, which will be provided at our new Mississauga location only.

Will I be able to access all services from one site?
Most services will be accessible at all sites, with the exception of the following:
  • Respite (Brampton site only)
  • Therapy pool (Brampton site only)
  • Selected lower volume specialty clinics, including our Botox, FASD, Neuromuscular and Orthopedic clinics.
Will my child’s care team remain the same?
We are carefully considering how staff at our new sites will continue to provide quality care to our clients. While our ultimate goal is to ensure your child’s care team remains unchanged, it is possible some modifications may occur.  We will make every effort to inform you well in advance of any changes to help ensure a smooth transition to our new facilities. If you have any questions or concerns, please email us at info@erinoakkids.ca.

Can I request a particular therapist to work with my child?
While a few exceptions may occur, families will not get to choose their therapist. We are carefully considering how staff at our new sites will continue to provide quality care to our clients. Our ultimate goal is to ensure your child’s care team remains the same, but there may be modifications. If you have any questions or concerns, please email us at info@erinoakkids.ca.

Will you be hiring more staff for the new sites?
ErinoakKids will hire new staff at our new sites based on the availability of funding and/or any associated program enhancements or expansions undertaken by our Ministry of Children and Youth Services. Additionally, some of our current roles may evolve to suit our new facilities. Should any positions become available, they will be posted on our Job Opportunities page.

Where will I park at the new sites?
Ample parking will be available at our new sites at a nominal cost for all staff, visitors and families. You can read more information on our parking page.

Will there be shorter waitlists?
ErinoakKids continually innovates to shorten waitlists and wait times where possible. This practice will continue in the future, based on ongoing reviews of services and associated processes, and will also be influenced by funding allocations. Given that (with few exceptions) families will receive all their services from one site once we move into new facilities, available services will, as a result, be better coordinated and more seamless for clients and families.

How accessible are the new sites?
All new sites will meet current accessibility requirements for clients, families and staff. For example, we will have accessible playgrounds, elevators, washrooms and parking spots. All our new sites are also accessible by transit.

Who is building the new sites?
The Peel-Halton Partnership (PHP) is designing, building and financing our new buildings. PHP is comprised of Stantec (lead architects), Bondfield Construction (developer and contractor), and Rocklynn Capital Inc. (financial advisors).

How much will the new sites cost?
Construction and land costs for our three new sites total $201 million.  The Ministry of Children and Youth Services is funding more than 90 percent of the cost, while ErinoakKids is raising an additional $20 million for equipment and programming.

How much money does ErinoakKids need to raise to support the facilities?
ErinoakKids is raising a total of $20 million through our In My Dreams fundraising campaign to purchase the specialized therapy and treatment equipment necessary to provide medical, therapy and support services to children with disabilities and special needs. Funds raised will also provide critical unfunded services to meet the growing demand for programming in our communities.
