Auditory Verbal Therapy and American Sign Language Instruction

Two communication development options are offered to parents of children with a permanent hearing loss who are eligible for services provided through the Ministry of Children and Youth Services Provincial Infant Hearing Program:

Auditory Verbal Therapy

Auditory Verbal Therapy focuses on using the child's available hearing to develop listening and speaking skills.

American Sign Language Instruction

American Sign Language instruction focuses on helping the child learn sign language as his or her first language.

Referral Criteria

  • Children 0 – 6 years with permanent hearing impairment
  • Must live in Ministry of Children and Youth Services Central West Region of Ontario
