Fall 2017 Program Descriptions

Family Skate

($100 per session OR $180 for two sessions)

Providing an opportunity for ErinoakKids clients and their families to participate and explore skating as a fun leisure activity. Adapted skating equipment, such as sledges and skate mates, will also be available for participants to try.


Erin Mills Twin Arena
3205 Unity Dr, Mississauga

Mondays, 4:20 – 5:20 p.m.

Session 1: Oct. 23 – Dec. 11
Session 2: Jan. 8 – Mar. 5
(no skate Feb 19)

Participant Criteria:
  • Ages: 3 and up
  • Participants must supply their own skates and wear a properly fitting skating helmet
  • One parent or guardian must attend the program with each client. If a parent is not able to assist on the ice, a volunteer can be placed with a client to support them while skating. Volunteers may be able to help siblings on a first come, first served basis, after support has been allocated to clients.


Family Music

($100 per family)

Come explore your love of music with various instruments and interactive activities!

ErinoakKids South Millway
2277 South Millway, Mississauga

Tuesdays, 5 – 6 p.m.
 
Sept. 19 – Oct. 24

Participant Criteria:
  • Ages: 4-9
  • Able to participate in group activities
  • Able to follow directions with or without support


Little Chefs ($50)


This introductory program will allow participants the opportunity to develop the knowledge and skills in meal preparation. Simple weekly menus will be planned and prepared, while learning kitchen safety, hygiene and clean up.

ErinoakKids South Millway

Wednesdays, 4:30 – 6:30 p.m.
 
Sept. 27 - Oct. 25

Participant Criteria:
  • Ages: 8-13
  • Able to participate in group activities and discussion with minimal support
  • Able to demonstrate awareness of safety precautions in a kitchen environment


Active Start ($50)


A guided activity-based play program created for children with an intellectual disability that will allow children and their caregivers an opportunity to engage in developmentally appropriate, skill-based sessions to promote basic motor skills such as balance, running, jumping and ball skills.

Wednesdays, 4 – 5 p.m.

Sept. 27 - Nov. 1

Participant Criteria:
  • Ages: 2-6
  • Able to walk independently with or without equipment
  • Able to attend with a parent or caregiver



Mini SKILLS ($50)


This program will provide participants, ages 6-10, with the opportunity to develop and practice skills related to recreation, leisure and independence. Targeted goals may include: personal and community safety, making a simple snack, simple money skills and cooperative play.

ErinoakKids Torbram Site
8177 Torbram Rd, Brampton

Fridays, 4:30 – 6 p.m.

Sept. 15 – Nov. 3

Participant Criteria:
  • Ages: 6-10
  • Must be referred by their Occupational Therapist
  • Able to identify a simple goal with support
  • Must be able to safely and successfully participate in a 90-minute, large group program



Bocce Club (FREE)


If you love to play Bocce or would like to learn this is for you! The goal of Bocce is to throw or bowl game balls so that they land as close as possible to a target ball. Bocce is played in over 42 countries and is one of the Paralympic Summer sports!

Sept. 14 - Oct. 26
Participant Criteria:
  • Ages: All
  • Able to participate in group activities with minimal support
  • Able to attend to a task for a minimum of 5 minutes
  • Interested in learning about adapted sport



MFTD Play Group (FREE)


Play group for children who are Medically Fragile / Technologically Dependent (MFTD). Join us for music, circle time, stories,
socializing and free play fun!

Burloak Site:
Sept. 11 – Oct. 30
10 – 11 a.m.

South Millway Site:
Sept. 12 – Oct. 31
10 – 11 a.m.

Torbram Site:
Sept. 15 – Nov. 3
10:30 – 11:30 a.m.

Participant Criteria:
 
  • Ages 2-5
  • Children who are identified as MFTD
  • Able to attend with a parent

  • Only current ErinoakKids clients are eligible to participate unless otherwise stated. Participants must meet all participant criteria. New participants may be asked to complete an assessment to ensure suitability for the program. Acceptance to the program is at the discretion of the facilitator.
  • Programs do not provide one-to-one support for attendant care (lifting, toileting, or administration of medication) or behavioral support.If assistance is required, it is the responsibility of the parent/guardian or appointed attendant to fulfill these duties. Volunteers can only facilitate your child’s participation in activities and are not permitted to assist with these duties.
  • Registrations will be accepted until 1 week before the start date of the program. If you want to register after this please call ahead.
  • If registration is low the program may be canceled and fees will be fully refunded.
