Drama helps children make sense of their lives and offers a safe medium through which they can explore their emotions. Drama can be used to

  • reinforce safety concepts
  • develop social skills
  • improve communication
  • increase self-esteem

As a complementary service, drama supports the achievement of measureable goals as identified by the client and the therapy team. Drama is delivered exclusively in a group setting on a fee-for-service basis. Group sessions include scripted activities, improvisation and role plays in order to meet the needs of an individual client. The Drama Facilitator may be available to co-lead therapy groups with speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, behaviour consultants and music therapists.

All Drama Services are offered by DramaWay. View this video from DramaWay about the ErinoakKids Drama Program.

There are two streams within our Drama Program here at ErinoakKids; Theatre Arts & DramaWorks Mississauga Group (previously ErinoakKids Players).

The Theatre Arts Group is process oriented program that typically runs during the Fall, Winter and Spring terms. Our Theatre Arts Group is geared and modified for all abilities for clients ages 8 to 18.  Those enrolled in our Theatre Arts Group will engage in a wide range of introductory drama activities and theatre exercises culminating in a small Open Class presentation for family and friends at the end of the term.  Those enrolled in our DramaWorks Mississauga Group (previously ErinoakKids Players), take part in a year-long program from September to spring which focuses on taking part in a full-length production which is showcased in the spring term.

Children may be referred for Drama Services if:

  • their age is within the age range mandate of their specific service stream

  • they are unable to participate in community drama programs

Drama is offered to children in order to support development related to:

  • Expressive and receptive language skills
  • Life skills
