Unlocking the power of thought, to communicate and to play!

ErinoakKids is one of twenty Empowered Kids Ontario member organizations who will soon be able to offer clients with complex physical disabilities an exciting opportunity: the chance to control items in their environment, using the power of their thoughts. This initiative has been made possible through the support of a historic gift from the Slaight Family Foundation to Holland Bloorview's Clinical Brain Computer Interface (BCI) Program.

BCI technology works using a headset or cap that contains sensors that read brain signals. Signals are then translated into real-time commands, such as turning on or off music or lights, playing a game, or even moving a wheelchair.

A small number of ErinoakKids families are needed for the first set of training sessions, this March, in Mississauga. Please speak to your clinician if this is something your family would be interested in. To participate, children should be aged three or older and have significant physical disabilities, and be able to tolerate a headset for at least 30 minutes at a time.
