Our flags at all ErinoakKids sites are at half-mast once again today, as we both acknowledge and mourn the discovery of yet another 751 unmarked graves of Indigenous children who were victims Canada’s residential school system, this time in Saskatchewan. This is the second discovery in as many weeks, and there will likely be many more such discoveries to come as the scope of this tragedy continues to come to light.
We mourn these children, taken from their homes and deprived of a future on the basis of racist policy specifically designed to obliterate their language, culture and identity. These are crimes against humanity for which justice must be sought and reparations made. As such, we join the First Nations people and all other voices in calling for acknowledgment of this destruction, cruelty and wanton disregard of a culture and way of life.
