London's Story

The Family Support Fund offered the financial stability that allowed London's mom to remain grounded and fully present for her children during difficult times, alleviating financial stresses.

Kenisha, a single mother of three, felt her world change after her son, London, received an autism diagnosis. But the endless demands of coordinating London’s care, scheduling specialist appointments and learning new therapeutic approaches, were immediately complicated when her youngest son became seriously ill.

Juggling London's intense needs with her other son's illness created a set of competing priorities that no one person could manage. Kenisha could not handle it all, so she had to make the difficult decision to quit her job.

As a single mother, now unemployed, the financial burden of managing three children with such profound and competing needs became overwhelming. Realizing she couldn’t navigate this difficult season alone, Kenisha reached out to London’s team at ErinoakKids to see if she was eligible for any supports.

She was able to access critical funding through the ErinoakKids Family Support Fund, which provided her with timely and essential assistance with everyday needs, including transportation to appointments and other daily living expenses.

Not only did the Family Support Fund help them at their time of need, but since he was little,
London has also benefited from the services at ErinoakKids, such as
Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Speech Therapy and the Entry To School (ETS) program.

“The progress has been extraordinary,” Kenisha recalls. Because of his success in ETS, London was able to enroll in JK on time, and is doing better than Kenisha could have ever wished for.

While these programs provided essential skills for London, the Family Support Fund offered the financial stability that allowed Kenisha to remain grounded and fully present for her children during difficult times, alleviating some of the financial stresses.

Today, London is flourishing and growing into his own, and Kenisha is deeply grateful for not only the help of the services at ErinoakKids, but the access to a fund for families who need monetary support.
